Fractals are a unique combination of mathematics and art. They are patterns which appear similarly in various scales, and the patterns can be found all over the place in nature and science. Fractals can be described with a basic pattern or with complex mathematical equations.

What I find most intriguing about fractals is the beautiful patterns which can be made using math. I have had a casual interest in fractals for many years, and have drawn them and written programs to draw them. I will post more about a program I wrote a few years ago to generate common fractals, but for right now I would like to show my Fractal Gallery. It contains fractal images called “fractal flames”, which were created using a fractal generator called Apophysis. If you would like to try creating your own fractals, Apophysis is a great open source program to do so.
