Movie Scripts Added

I added a Movie Scripts section to my site, which contains transcripts of complete movie dialog. Check out the following scripts:

Freem?

Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report

On Monday, at the end of the opening credits for The Colbert Report the word “Superstantial” was replaced with “Freem” (previous words include “Grippy”, “Licolnish”, and “Megamerican”). Fans have been abuzz with speculation because Stephen Colbert has not yet explained the meaning of the word, and previous words have been fairly easy to figure out. An entry has already been made in the Urban Dictionary for “Freem”, although it points out that the definition is not yet known.

Snow Day!

Ice/Snow in the Backyard

This happens about once every couple of years in Texas, but we have a snow day today! It’s really more of an ice day… it has been raining and got cold enough to freeze over. Today we’re getting some icy rain/snow and all the businesses and schools are closed because here in Texas we can’t handle a little bit of ice. Woohoo!

“Labyrinth” Movie Photos

Labyrinth (1986)

I’m still seeing a lot of search requests for characters from the movie Labyrinth (1986) showing up in my stats. So, I’ve gone ahead and added the Labyrinth photos from my previous site into my new Movie Photo Gallery. I will be adding the other movies that I used to feature on my site over the next week or so, including Legend, The Matrix, and Shrek. If you have any requests, let me know and I’ll see what I can do!

Movie Review: Pan’s Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

My first movie review: Pan’s Labyrinth Review

I had the fortunate opportunity to see Pan’s Labyrinth on Friday at a local theater, in one of only 14 cities playing the film (it will be playing in many more cities on Friday, January 19th). Pan’s Labyrinth is currently showing a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is extremely high. It means that 97% of the reviews gathered from all different sources rated the movie positively. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, and wrote up my own review: Pan’s Labyrinth Review.

Helm’s Deep Made Out of Candy

I was reading Digg and came across this Scale Model of Helm’s Deep Made Out of Candy (Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers). That’s a lot of gummy bears! It looks like it took quite a bit of work, and it’s very impressive.

Battlestar Galactica Movie in the Works

Battlestar Galactica

A blog on the Chicago Tribune announced that a Battlestar Galactica movie (SPOILER ALERT) is in the works, which “may be released between seasons 3 and 4″. If there is a season 4, the movie will probably be released to DVD and aired on Sci-Fi. If not… well let’s not go there. As far as I know, the show is extremely popular, so I think season 4 is almost a given, and the idea of having a movie is incredible. It may not be much more than a two hour episode, but I’ll take as much as I can get.

The rest of the article talks about upcoming storylines. While it may spoil some things, I read the article, and it is more cryptic than anything else. However, if you want to be completely surprised by everything that happens during the rest of season 3, don’t read it. I will say that the interview in the article revealed that the rest of season 3 will take the show in a new direction, just as they did at the end of season 1 and season 2. I can’t wait!

World of Warcraft Surpasses 8 Million Subscribers Worldwide

World of Warcraft

Today Blizzard gave a press release concerning their subscriber count… 8 million. Of course I immediately questioned whether that number included actual current subscribers or anyone who has ever had a WoW account. The answer is at the bottom of the press release.

Cross Stitch Section Added

Oriental Butterfly Cross Stitch

I added a new section to my site: Cross Stitch. Cross stitching is a type of needlework done by making small crosses in an ‘x’ using thread to create an image on the fabric. Check out the cross stitch section here for more info about cross stitching, a photo gallery of my projects, and a list of some free cross stitch patterns. I hope to add more cross stitch info later, such as tutorials and tips.

Austin on Wired’s Top Ten Tech Towns List

Austin, TX

Wired has an article this month listing their Top Ten Tech (Geek) Towns, and Austin is on the list:

Inspiration for Slacker, epicenter of the first EFF battle, home to Dell, Whole Foods, and South by Southwest. Not to mention host to the most dorkbot attendees in the country. Only downside: It’s surrounded by Texas.

One of their criteria was “Number of attendees at local meetings of dorkbot, a group for ‘people doing strange things with electricity’” (10 for Austin). Why did they use something so obscure? Austin also has a pretty high rating for availability of free Wi-Fi according to the article. I have one question though… how exactly does Whole Foods make it a tech town? And yeah, Austin is in Texas, but you really don’t need to leave it much, so I have seen very little of the rest of Texas.

On another top ten note, a neighborhood in downtown Austin is in Natural Home’s Ten Best Eco-Neighborhoods (in America):

SOUTH CONGRESS NEIGHBORHOOD
Located near downtown Austin, South Congress (SoCo) has a lively commercial district full of retro shops, boutiques, neighborhood bars and coffee shops, mixed-use and mixed-priced housing, and outdoorsy orientation.

I don’t go downtown much, but go Austin!

In other local news, on Monday a section of Austin’s downtown area was shut down due to around 60 dead birds along the street. Apparently nothing else was wrong, so it was no more than a precaution. With bird flu in the news, people can be quick to jump to conclusions. The birds were pigeons, sparrows and grackles, so it was probably something more mundane… like poison!
