Trailer Music: Globus, E. S. Posthumus, and Ars Arcana

I’m a big fan of musical scores for movies. Recently, more and more music used in trailers for these movies has been original compositions by music production companies made specifically for trailers. Most of these tracks are unavailable to the general public, and only made available to the trailer producers. However, there are a few CDs of this type of music available for purchase: Epicon by Globus, Unearthed by E. S. Posthumus, and The Savage Tongue by Ars Arcana.

Globus is a company created by Yoav Goren, the co-founder of the music trailer producer Immediate Music. The music produced by Immediate Music has been used in countless trailers. Globus’ CD, Epicon, takes a group of their tracks and combines them with various singers and styles to create full length tracks. The result is some tracks which use a lot of choral music and others which have more of a pop sound. I’m not as much of a fan of the pop sounds, but most of the CD is wonderful… my favorite track is Preliator.

E. S. Posthumus was founded by two brothers who enjoy orchestrating music. Their album, Unearthed combines classical/choral music with modern beats, and it has been used in both film and TV. The tracks are all named after ancient cities, like Pompeii, and are a great combination of classical and rock music. The style has become quite popular since the CD was released.

Ars Arcana (meaning “Arcane Arts”) is a group of choir members, soloists, and sound engineers. Tracks from their CD, The Savage Tongue, have been used in many trailers. They are a wonderful combination of orchestra and choir which sound like they could be movie scores.

You can listen to clips of all three albums at CD Baby: Epicon, Unearthed, The Savage Tongue.
